Building a Better Future for Children with Special Needs

Bliss Care Foundation is undertaking the development of a new, purpose-built Bliss Care Clinic building in Lh. Naifaru, Maldives, to expand access to specialized therapeutic services for children and adults with special needs.

Bliss Care Clinic currently provides Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Behavior Therapy, and Special Education. As the first and only specialized therapy centre in the region, the clinic plays an essential role in supporting individuals with developmental, behavioral, physical, and communication challenges.

However, increasing demand has brought the existing clinic to full capacity, limiting the number of individuals who can receive timely intervention. The new building will address these limitations by providing dedicated therapy spaces, improved facilities, and opportunities to introduce additional specialized services.

The Proposed Facility

The new multi-storey building has been designed to accommodate a comprehensive range of therapeutic and support facilities.

• Ground Floor: Speech Therapy, Behavior Therapy, and Special Education

The ground floor will feature a welcoming reception area and dedicated rooms for individualized therapeutic and educational sessions. These spaces will provide a comfortable, private, and supportive environment for children and families.

• First Floor: Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy

This floor will include specialized therapy spaces equipped to support sensory integration, motor development, physical rehabilitation, coordination, and independent living skills. Administrative offices will also be located on this floor.

• Second and Third Floors: Staff Accommodation

Dedicated accommodation will be provided for therapists and other essential staff, supporting the recruitment and retention of qualified professionals and helping ensure continuity of care.

• Terrace Floor: Aquatic Therapy and Sensory Activities

The terrace will feature a planned aquatic therapy pool and sensory activity area, creating opportunities for therapeutic interventions that support mobility, strength, sensory regulation, and overall development.

Construction Progress

Construction of the new building is already underway. The foundation and initial structural works have been completed, including ground beams, slab work, and structural pillars. Further construction and finishing works are required to bring the facility into operation.

The project represents a long-term investment in improving access to specialized therapy services for families in Lh. Naifaru and surrounding islands.

Expected Community Impact

Once completed, the new Bliss Care Clinic is expected to:

• Increase the number of children and adults who can access specialized therapy services.

• Reduce waiting times and improve access to early intervention.

• Provide dedicated, purpose-built spaces for different therapeutic disciplines.

• Introduce aquatic therapy and expanded sensory intervention facilities.

• Support the recruitment and retention of qualified therapists through staff accommodation.

• Improve continuity of care and strengthen support for families across Lhaviyani Atoll.

• Create a welcoming and accessible environment that encourages independence, inclusion, and personal development.

Support the Project

Completing this facility requires continued financial and community support. Contributions will help fund construction, interior finishing, accessibility and safety features, therapy equipment, staff facilities, and the planned aquatic therapy and sensory spaces.
